This position is the first person the patients will encounter when entering the General Surgery Clinic and thus exemplary customer service is expected at all times. This position is a crossed trained position for all three clinic positions based on clinic needs under the direction of the MA Supervisor and/or Revenue Cycle Director. The crossed trained positions are Reception which includes answering and directing incoming phone calls, maintaining doctor's schedules, scheduling appointments, chart prep for future appointments, assisting the coders by assuring all charts are complete and informing the coders of chart readiness via CLEO, process referrals and co-payment collection.
The Care Technician which is responsible for pre-authorizations for surgeries, prescriptions, medical imaging studies. Scheduling surgical procedures with the operating room and giving patient's surgical prep instruction. In charge of getting all surgical paperwork to the operating room. Faxes all consult notes to referring providers. Scanning documents into patients charts. Answering and directing incoming phone calls.
Also responsible for the triaging of patient phone calls/concerns/questions, assigning and escorting patients to rooms, collecting patient history, collect vitals, patient follow up via phone calls and electronic routes, assisting surgeons in minor office procedures.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a certified Medical Assistant program, preferred.
Experience: Previous medical practice, clinic or hospital experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology required. Excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills required. Experience with computers, fax/copy machines, telephone etiquette, paging systems and database systems preferred.
Licenses/Certification: Maintenance of current CPR or BLS. Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
