POSITION SUMMARY

The athletic trainer will be responsible for the sports medicine coverage at Western Colorado University (WCU). The athletic trainer will provide Athletic Training Services to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or by written in accordance with state athletic training practice act and NCAA rules where applicable. The athletic trainer will play a vital role in the communication and relationship between GVH, area providers and the community.  Additional job responsibilities will include; athletic training coverage as needed and assigned by the WCU Head Athletic Trainer and approved by the Administrator of Athletic Medicine for the outreach programs.  Teaching and lecturing for sports medicine/health/anatomy & physiology/strength & conditioning in the school and community, and development and implementing a student athletic training program may be required of this position. 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  B.S. or greater in Athletic Training.

Experience:   New graduates may be considered; 2+ years is preferable, Experience in secondary school setting, Experience in lecturing/teaching, Experience with concussion management

Licenses/Certification:   Certified athletic trainer by the BOC and in good standing, Colorado State licensed athletic trainer, DORA, AHA/BLS for healthcare provider.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

·         Provide emergency care and first aid

·         Provide daily athletic training services to student-athletes participating in NCAA athletics

·         Documentation of all injuries, treatments, return to play progressions, referrals, rehabilitation, health records and communication in accordance with WCU, NCAA and GVH hospital standards and best clinical practice

·         Injury prevention, management and treatment

·         Concussion management program including, education, prevention program, evaluation, documentation, referrals, management, protocol updates, return to play progression and communication     

·         Research data collection    

·         Injury prevention, management and treatment

·         Communication with athletes, parents, medical director, healthcare professionals, coaches, school staff and administrators (HIPAA and FERPA compliant)

·         Demonstrate and documenting value of athletic training position thru revenue tracking and reimbursement

·         Supply and budget management

·         Manage and document injury/illness referrals

·         Assist in the development and execution of rehabilitation, return to play and strength and conditioning programs

·         Comply with all GVH, WCU, and NCAA policies and procedures, seek guidance from direct report should questions arise

·         Assist in any GVH Rehabilitation clinic in any appropriate capacity as needed    

Compensation: Weekly salary of $836/week - $1,003.60/week, depending on experience.

Medical, dental, vision, health care FSA, and dependent care FSA: All active employees working 40 or more hours per pay period are eligible for benefits on the first of the month following 30 days of active service.  PRN staff are not initially eligible for benefits, and GVH follows all Affordable Health Care Act Eligibility guidelines.
